Places of interest in and around Englefield Green
There are a number of places of interest in the locality, many of which are open to the public. The Magna Carta was signed by King John at nearby Runnymede in 1215, and on a nice day you might like to visit the Magna Carta Memorial, erected by the American Bar Association. Close by is the Kennedy Memorial put up in 1965. It is on a hill at the top of a 50 step climb – the steps signifying the 50 States of the USA.
In Englefield Green itself is the very moving Air Forces’ Memorial built to recognise the bravery of the 20,000 plus men who lost their lives in the Second World War and who have no known grave. From this very impressive memorial there are magnificent views of the river Thames and the surrounding countryside.
Also in Englefield Green, and very dominant on the A30, is Royal Holloway, University of London. The College hosts several events during the year – concerts, talks, summer fair etc - which can be attended by the public.
For walks, or appreciation of natural beauty, you have Windsor Great Park which incorporates the beautiful Virginia Water with its lake, waterfall and Leptis Magna ruins and the Savill Gardens with award-winning architecture, beautiful grounds, lovely shop and restaurant.
Windsor, with its castle and other places of interest, and Ascot racecourse are also very close by.
